Experience

Well-versed in the law and strategy of electronic discovery and electronic production of documents

  1. Has been involved in many large, complex e-discovery projects around the world, in a combination of civil, criminal, regulatory and investigative proceedings.
  2. Called to the Bar of Ontario 1985, he has many years of experience working with over 100 law firms, corporate and government law departments on legal technology issues

Legal Technology Counsel at McCarthys for seven years, with responsibility for implementing technology for lawyers

Has been a member of the Judges Technology Advisory Committee of the Canadian Judicial Council since its establishment in 1987 and is vice-chair of its subcommittee on Evidence Standards

Participated actively in the Electronic Discovery Committee of the Task Force on the Discovery Process in Ontario, which drafted the Ontario Guidelines on Electronic Discovery (October 1995)

Charter Member and active participant in the Sedona Conference Working Group 7, which published the Sedona Canada E-Discovery Principles

Worked with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court to draft amended Rules relating to electronic discovery and production, issued in January 2009

In 2000 Martin co-founded Commonwealth Legal Inc., Canada’s leader in global evidence management solutions.

Has nine years of practical hands-on experience involved in building Commonwealth Legal into Canada’s leader in Global Evidence Management Solutions, with 65 full-time employees, ISO-9001 certified e-discovery processes, and offices across Canada.
